Why condemn five if one sacrifice suffices? What purpose would it serve?

That's still not what I asked but to answer your question, none if the value of everyone is equal. However the problem becomes more complicated when you give those nameless people different values. What if that one person was a dear friend? Would you still sacrifice them over five strangers?
